South Florida home prices up 4.4% from a year ago


According to a closely watched index, South Florida home prices rose 4.4 percent in June from a year earlier, as national numbers turned positive again, bolstering evidence housing is recovering.

COASTAL FLOODING CONTINUES


 
Tuesday, October 30, 2012


The ocean swell effects of Hurricane Sandy continue in Miami Beach through Thursday. Flooding during high-tide periods will occur and subside during low tide and should improve daily.

We are working on some temporary approaches to address the flooding that has been re-occurring in our city during high tides. We are also evaluating the impacted areas' systems to identify longer-term solutions. Over the next several cycles of high-tide, you will see an increased police presence and/or signage in advance of impacted intersections. Operational and public safety teams will close parking and/or travel lanes and plug drains when necessary. They will also try to pump out water when and where possible.

Avoid flooded intersections and allow extra time to travel. We are also increasing VMS messages about impacts to the MacArthur Causeway due to slower traffic at Fifth Street and Alton Road.

Some street lights and WiFi nodes are currently out due to electrical damage caused by the floods. We are working on expediting the repairs necessary.

Please note also that the high risk of rip currents continues on our beaches.

 You are encouraged to monitor the local news and weather. Also, take this time to review personal preparedness plans for hurricane season. Hurricane season ends November 30. 


COASTAL FLOOD WARNING



Sunday, October 28, 2012 

The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning through 8:00 a.m. Monday for Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties. There is a high risk of rip currents on Atlantic beaches and a High Surf Advisory is in effect for the Atlantic Coast due to large swells from Hurricane Sandy.

Flooding throughout Miami Beach will occur especially during high tide (8:06 p.m. tonight and 8:39 a.m. Monday). Operational teams will close parking and/or travel lanes when necessary. Avoid flooded areas. Allow extra time during Monday morning commutes.

Elevated water levels and high waves (>10FT) will lead to sea water over washing some roads along Atlantic beaches in the tri-county area. Major beach erosion will also continue. 

You are encouraged to monitor the local news and weather. Also, take this time to review personal preparedness plans for hurricane season. Hurricane season ends November 30. 

 

ALERT - Garage Flooding/Elevators Down



October 28. 2012

Due to the recent rains and high tide our garage is flooded.  Additionally the Elevators are currently off as water is in the Elevator Pits. The issue is caused by the  city Storm sewers and Catch Basins being full and water backing up from the system.  Once the Tide begins to lower then the Storm Sewers and Catch basins will begin to pump the water out.      

I have verified that all our Neighbor building are experiencing  the same flooding.

Will keep everyone informed.

Miami Beach Boardwalk Getting $1 Million Makeover


Miami Beach’s popular Boardwalk, occasionally featured in Hollywood films and TV shows, is getting a $1 million makeover.

The four-month project will include the removal of the elevated wooden boardwalk from 45th street near the Eden Roc Hotel all the way north to 47th street where it will be replaced with at-grade concrete pavement.

Miami Beach to launch car share program


Getting a car to drive on South Beach may soon be about as easy as ordering a pizza.
The city of Miami Beach is launching a program that will allow tourists and residents to rent sedans, SUVs and eventually electric cars on an as-need basis for as brief and cheap as $9 an hour.
The service, provided through Hertz On Demand, kicks off Tuesday when 20 cars will become available in eight parking garages located mostly in South Beach. The city’s fleet could eventually reach 100 cars.

Good News: Miami housing sales set record in 2011


Year-end figures show that homes and condos sold at a pace that eclipsed the volume of deals at the height of the boom

International buyers spurred Miami-area home sales to a new record in 2011, even exceeding sales volume during the height of the real estate boom in 2005, according to figures released Friday.

A total of 24,929 condominiums and homes were sold in Miami-Dade County, up 46 percent from 2010 and up 4 percent compared to 2005, according to the Miami Association of Realtors and the Southeast Florida Multiple Listing Service. Condominiums sales surged 54 percent, to 15,009 in 2011, and home sales rose 36 percent to 9,920.
“We’re on the verge of a real estate boom,” said Miami Association of Realtors Residential President Patricia Delinois, citing an array of properties from the Design District and Brickell to Miami Beach.
